Lead, Create, and Deliver High-Quality Aluminium Joinery
We are looking for an Aluminium Workshop Lead to manage our talented team in fabricating, assembling, and installing high-quality aluminium windows and doors for building projects across Gisborne. This is a hands-on leadership role, where you’ll work alongside the team in the workshop while also assisting with on-site installations.
At DStevens, we take pride in delivering award-winning construction, joinery, and interiors projects. For over 70 years, we’ve built high-profile commercial, residential (new homes and renovations), and educational projects throughout Gisborne and the wider Tairāwhiti region.

About the role
As an Aluminium Workshop Lead, you will play a crucial role in our business. Our aluminium workshop team manufactures Rylock aluminium windows and doors, Louvretec opening roofs and screens, and undertakes repairs and maintenance for our residential and commercial clients.
This role is not just an office-based position – you’ll be actively involved in fabricating, assembling, and ensuring quality production while supporting on-site installations when required. You’ll also oversee workflow, pricing, project planning, and a skilled team to ensure smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a team of fabricators and apprentices.
Work hands-on in the workshop, fabricating and assembling aluminium joinery.
Assist with on-site installs to ensure a seamless connection between production and delivery.
Engage with customers, provide accurate pricing, and manage project planning.
Ensure projects are completed on time and to a high standard.
Maintain a strong focus on health and safety compliance.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 is required.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
Previous experience in aluminium fabrication, workshop leadership, or a related field.
Ability to read and interpret plans, ensuring accuracy in production.
Technical knowledge of aluminium joinery and an understanding of the NZ Building Code (H1) is a plus.
Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to create, read, and understand technical drawings
